Defending Progress: A Statement on the Unwarranted Protests Targeting Hon. Tunji-Ojo and the Tinubu Administration
Our attention has been drawn to a politically sponsored protest aimed at targeting the star boy cum Àrẹmọ of the Renewed Hope Agenda, the exemplary Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration. It is disheartening to witness how certain factions, both within and outside the political landscape, are willing to resort to such tactics in their quest to undermine progress and stability. These orchestrated protests seem to be fueled by opposition groups and individuals who are not only threatened by the strides made by this administration but are also driven by an insatiable desire to see it fail.
The resilience and determination exhibited by Hon. Tunji-Ojo in his role are commendable and have become a source of frustration for those who wish to see the current government falter. The Minister’s remarkable achievements have been in tandem with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which outlines a thoughtful and strategic vision for our nation. It is not surprising that the enemies of progress would resort to such desperate measures when faced with the undeniable success of this administration.
Perhaps the protesters have willfully chosen to overlook or are perhaps blind to the substantial transformations that have taken place under the leadership of Hon. Tunji Ojo at the Ministry of Interior. The enhancements made in various areas are remarkable; a few notable achievements include the reform of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), which has significantly bolstered border security, ensuring a safer and more secure nation. In addition, reforms within the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) have strengthened our internal security framework, which is an absolute necessity in today’s complex security landscape.
Moreover, the advances in fire safety through the Fire Service (FFS) reforms, the overhaul in data management spearheaded by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), and essential reforms in prison and correctional facilities clearly demonstrate the Minister’s commitment to comprehensive improvement. These developments have had a profound impact on the efficacy and functionality of the Ministry of Interior. The introduction of enhanced passport services, including the e-passport, contactless processing, and e-visa applications, showcases a forward-thinking approach to governance that prioritizes convenience and efficiency for citizens.
In response to the unfounded claims made against Hon. Tunji Ojo’s credentials, credible institutions including WAEC, NYSC, and FUTA staff school have provided clarifications that dismantle these baseless accusations fueled by bigotry and egoistic exuberance. The official statements from these authorities leave little room for doubt or speculation, rendering such claims devoid of merit. The time, energy, and resources expended on these distractions are lamentable and reflect poorly on those who persist in perpetuating them.
If the intention behind these protests was to derail the minister from his commitments, rest assured that this has backfired. Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo is not a man easily swayed by fleeting distractions or unfounded grievances. His dedication to his role as Minister is unwavering, and his focus on upholding the Renewed Hope Agenda remains resolute. Rather than being deterred, he is motivated by the knowledge that the work he is doing is crucial for the betterment of our society.
It is essential to recognize that these protests serve no higher purpose than to sow discontent and disrupt the peace of everyday citizens. They create unnecessary scenes in our streets, disturb the normal activities of the public, and feed only false claims and fallacies, undermining the constructive progress that has been made. The noise created by these demonstrations should not drown out the constructive dialogues and initiatives aimed at fostering national growth and development.
As responsible citizens and stakeholders in this great nation, we must encourage a dialogue grounded in facts and constructive criticism rather than political maneuvering that seeks only to divide us. It is incumbent upon us to support those leaders who are genuinely committed to driving positive change, like Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who has proven himself as one of the best ministers in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is on this note that we encourage you to rally behind the Renewed Hope Agenda, fostering a spirit of collaboration and shared purpose as we work towards a brighter future for all.
